Organized Clutter

My mom and both of my grandmas were button collectors. Besides inheriting some of their buttons, I have purchased my own cards and jars of buttons. Over the last 10+ years, I have used buttons for both decorating and crafting.  Take a look.

Here is an assortment of older blog projects and newer ones. Let's talk old suitcases! I scoop them up when they are clean inside and have a reasonable price.   I spray painted the one above with  Rustoleum Painters Touch Flat Black Spray Paint  and decorated it with   Redesign With Prima's Somewhere In France Transfer. The wooden basket on the left was found at a garage sale, and the miniature sled at Goodwill. Each cost $4.  I transformed the items with paint, stencils, napkin decoupage!

  The project I was most proud of in 2023 was my junk flower gardens! It's a summer long project. That is a labor of love. I found this washboard recently at the Minnetonka Goodwill .  I have never seen an "Authentic Musical Washboard" in all of my previous washboard finds. I found this chippy rustic window frame (with two window panes) last week at a local consignment shop.  I am looking for junk decor for my gardens and covered patio. I have lots of junk, but I have to change it up to keep it interesting!

I purchased two wooden advertising yardsticks from a local consignment shop to make a Valentine's Day project.  I paid $5 for both of them.   After seeing my yardstick project below, please continue scrolling on down for this month's installment of the Thrift Store Decor Team's February party. You will not be disappointed!

  Boy, this old cream suitcase takes me back! Back to the beginnings of Organized Clutter, the blog. I painted an old suitcase inside and out with  Rustoleum Heirloom White Paint ,  Heirloom White used to be my "go to" paint in the beginning, and this suitcase was the first container vignette on my blog. The photo above is a Victorian Valentine's Day suitcase vignette with the famous Cupid Awake & Cupid Asleep Prints in oval frames, buttons, threads, pearls, gloves, a bust, and Valentine's Day pillow.

  I found this primitive country wooden canister set at Goodwill about a year ago. It is a nesting set, so the smaller ones can be stored inside the larger one.  The bottom has a tag that says "For decorative use only", so food can not be placed directly inside the boxes.

This wooden and metal sleigh Christmas decoration was thrifted by my mom several years ago. I decided to give it a makeover!

I purchased a tiny Norfolk Pine at Christmas time several years ago.  It was only about 4" tall. (A Norfolk Pine is not really a pine tree, by the way) I kept the Norfolk Pine alive after Christmas, and eventually transplanted it into a bigger, but plain, plastic pot.  It has grown quite a bit, and spends its summers on my covered patio.

When the weather is just too hot, too cold or too wet to be outside, maybe it's a great time to do a little holiday crafting!  I made these easy  Salt & Pepper Shaker Ornaments  from thrift store clear glass shakers, faux snow, a mini adhesive deer stencil, a button, bell, and ribbon. I purchased this package of dyeable Easter eggs at Target for $3. I found these larger paper mache eggs at Hobby Lobby.  (They are 40% off)

I found this felt bunny garland at Dollar Tree recently in the the Easter section. The felt was very thin, and the colors were a bit too bright for my style, so I gave it a makeover.

  This project started out with this reddish colored barn wood framed primitive country sign. I purchased it thrifting for $3.  The sign part is painted on a thin piece of board.

  My Christmas decorating projects began in October with these  garage sale bottles  in a metal container from a garage sale. The bottles were painted with Dixie Belle Paint and decorated with Redesign With Prima Christmas decor transfers. Links to all the projects are under the photos.

This little cutting board was found at Goodwill.   I think it was hand painted with a Betsey Clark style character , popular with Hallmark back in the day.

I continued to score fun items to upcycle at the Target Bullseye Playground area. This Christmas sweater shaped chalkboard was my latest find!
