I ran across this metal minnow bucket it in my shed. I had purchased it at a garage sale, and used it in my junk garden several years ago. It's not super old as it had a UPC stamped on it. I had previously drilled holes in the bottom for drainage. Scroll on down to see my minnow bucket makeover, as well as more October projects from the Thrift Store Decor Team !
Besides decorating with real pumpkins and faux pumpkins in the fall, I like to repurpose junk and other items as pumpkins and Jack O' Lanterns. In the first photo, I found an orange rake head, tied raffia on it, and hung it outside my front door.
I found this wood chip basket pumpkin at a recent garage sale. It was a little tired looking so I gave it a makeover! Scroll on down for my basket makeover and 8 other September upcycling projects from the Thrift Store Decor Team.
If you haven't picked up the September 2023 issue of Country Sampler , maybe you should plan to pick it up! I have five of my fall upcycled decor projects featured, and my blogging friends Sadie Seasongoods and House Of Hawthornes do as well.
I found this chippy rustic window frame (with two window panes) last week at a local consignment shop. I am looking for junk decor for my gardens and covered patio. I have lots of junk, but I have to change it up to keep it interesting!
These mini Dollar Tree boxes were upcycled in early 2021 with paint and Dollar Tree stencils. I actually shared several Dollar Tree/Dollar General upcycle projects in 2021, partially due to the pandemic. I attended far fewer garage sales and paid less visits to thrift shops as well, but luckily Dollar Tree expanded its craft area. Click on the bold links under the photos for full DIY tutorials.
This pair of galvanized canisters were a Goodwill find from April. The labels were pretty faded, and one of the labels has been wet. Even though they said "flour" and "sugar", the bottoms have labels advising that the containers are for decorative use only.
I found this cloth blank banner/flag at Hobby Lobby in the Christmas Craft area. It has a stiff plastic or coated backing. Do you ever wonder how to decorate these craft blanks? I will show you how I finished my banner, and then my decorated fall covered patio decor! I removed the string and dowel from my Hobby Lobby Banner. Next, I brushed on two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Putty . I think this paint color takes on a burlap look. I didn't paint the back. Just the front and edges.
I saw this rustic pallet section leaning against the outdoor wall of our local antiques shop, priced at $5. I knew that I could make it into something fun!
My project today started out with three very similarly sized thrift shop books. I gave them a fun fall makeover WITHOUT PAINT OR STENCILS! Take a look below.
