Organized Clutter

I just love growing herb plants in my junk gardens!  I also love to decorate both the inside and outside of my home with herb themed decor. Here are 12 of my favorite herb themed ideas here, including this Rusty Herb Folding Chair ! Project links are provided with details of all photos.

I found this navy blue metal decor truck at Dollar General.    I paid $10 for it.  I gave it a small upcycle with decor transfers, and placed it on my deck with a succulent!

  I found this tag shaped photo collage frame at Dollar General .  It was priced at $5.  It's actually a nice frame.   When I upcycle some dollar store items, I do it because I want the item to be MY style or meet MY needs.  In this case I wanted to use the collage frame for flower garden photos and not family photos.

  I found a plain wooden bunny and egg wooden plaque at Dollar General .   Dollar General's cutouts were $2 each and a little thicker than Dollar Tree's . In the photo above small pieces of a 1" x 2" were glued to the back of the plaques with  Titebond Wood Glue .

I purchased two of these framed farm art pieces at Dollar General for $1 a piece. Under close inspection they are made quite cheaply with pressed board frames and cow shape. I knew I could give them a handcrafted look with little effort.

  I purchased the Cross on the left at Dollar Tree and the one one the right at Dollar General. I purchased these two at Dollar Tree. I gave them all a makeover.

    Dollar Tree now has rub on transfers too! I had an idea for this fashion themed page of transfers.

Garden decor is arriving at the dollar shops.  This little flag was a $1 purchase at our local Dollar General. I like the idea of garden flags, I just don't like the overly bright colors of this flag with my farmhouse/junk garden decor.

You may remember that I like to upcycle Dollar General jar signs. I just purchased two more. These jar signs were in the Valentine's Day decor section, and they were bigger than the last two I upcycled. The jar signs aren't too bad "as is" but I don't even decorate for Valentine's Day much anymore, and the signs have a "mass produced" look versus a homemade look. I will make give them a farmhouse style makeover.

Dollar General is carrying these jar wall sign decorations again this spring.

 I picked up these three little buffalo check cloth mini bags at Dollar General recently for $1. Time to create more semi-homemade ornaments!

 I purchased this set of six round ornament frames last year at Hobby Lobby.

 It doesn't have to cost a fortune to decorate a Christmas Tree!  Thrifted and upcycled, repurposed, and semi-homemade ornaments can be combined for an interesting, fun and beautiful Christmas Tree. Here is another easy semi-homemade ornament idea using a boxed dozen of small pinecone ornaments from Dollar General.  The box cost me one dollar. The "ornaments" simply had a piece of jute string hot glued to the top of each pinecone. First, I used a cheaper artist type brush, along with Dixie Belle Paint in Fluff, and just dabbed paint on the tips of each pinecone. The bottom of each pinecone scale is painted with white paint. They are already more interesting and will also show up better on a dark green tree.  The last step was to simply hot glue a Dollar TREE Christmas Cloche Bell (jingle bell) to the top of each pinecone. There were 32 bells to the package for $1.  An easy upcycle idea for a plain pinecone ornament...

 I live in a small town.  Our Kmart is closing in December.  No Target and no Walmart.  No Hobby Lobby, Joann Fabrics or Michael's either.  All major chain stores are at least 100 miles away. I have been trying to shop at our local Dollar Tree or Dollar General more often.  We have a Family Dollar too but so far I haven't found anything there. The truck Christmas tree ornaments are from Dollar General.  There are kinda cute for $1.

 I found these two wire baskets with cloth liners at Dollar General this week.  The smaller basket was priced at $5, and the larger at $7. Quite reasonable, huh?  I think I can use them as hostess gifts and/or Christmas gifts.
