Junk Garden Plantings & Vignettes On The Corner Of The Deck

May 25, 2022
I finally got to start planting my summer annuals, just a little bit before Memorial Day. I started on this corner of my deck with galvanized planters, annuals and other fun junk! I like to layer my junk. My double decker scrub bucket has a  Calliope Dark Red Geranium , and the bottom level has two  MiniFamous Neo Double Deep Yellow Calibrachoas.

My Best Junk Garden Posts of 2021

After many years of out of control ground covers along the west wall of my house, my husband and I re-landscaped the area with weed block and river rock.  See many more photos of this project before, during and after  HERE.

Combining Stencils & Decor Transfers On A Rustic Christmas Bucket

October 15, 2021
I purchased these four red metal buckets at a garage sale this past summer for $1 each.  Since they were already painted and not galvanized, with a great patina, I have no problem painting and decorating them. I upcycled one of the buckets already with a rooster decor transfer  HERE.

I shared Dana's tastefully arrange junk , back in 2015  HERE.   It was a hit!  This time the junk is decorating her log cabin!

More NEW Galvanized Planters Along The Deck

Galvanized Buckets, Annuals, Climbing Vines, And Other Junk Garden Decor On The Deck

June 09, 2021
I added a few dianthus to the end of the deck here, along with a sedum. The others came up from last year.  These dianthus are sold as 6 pack annuals but they are very hardy and survive several seasons even in Zone 3. Now let's check out some deck planters!  There are links to more info on most of the annuals in the post.

An Easy DIY Fern Stand From A Thrift Shop Find

June 03, 2021
I think this was a candle stand that may have had a glass part too.  I found it at the thrift shop a few years ago and just ran across it in my shed. I gave it a quick and easy repurpose!

Upcycle & Repurpose Thrifted Items With Hobby Lobby Metal Containers

January 03, 2021
Since I live in a small town, I don't have a lot of shopping opportunities.  We are down to one thrift shop, one big box store (Menard's), and 3 dollar stores.  And our Kmart closed a year ago without a replacement. While I still find items to upcycle and repurpose at the thrift shop and garage sales, I supplement my project pieces with metal containers from Hobby Lobby.  I must drive 100 miles to find the closest Hobby Lobby stores, so I do order online as well.  I always purchase my metal pieces at 40% - 50%. The above pieces (and a few more) became part of my past projects.

A Gathering of Mop Buckets in a Small Junk Garden

June 16, 2019
I finished planting all of my annuals the first week of June.  It has been a cool/cold spring with frost even into June. Over the years, I have accumulated several old galvanized scrub or mop buckets.  They work as annual planters just like my galvanized laundry tubs and feed buckets.  This old bucket is planted with two red  Nemesia annuals.   Nemesia has become one of my favorite annuals.
