This garage sale find, a slaw cutter, was one of the items in my April Junk Finds Blog Post.

I paid $1 for it, and the seller had put blue tape on the sharp blade.

Before a light scrubbing with hot Dawn Dish Soapy water and a rag, I removed the sharp blade that was attached with 3 small nails.

I dulled the sharpness of the blade by rubbing the sharp edge back and forth on a stone outside.

This is a water based product that dries pretty quickly, and clean up is easy.

Next, I pulled out one of my all time favorite stencilsFarm Blend Grains from Old Sign Stencils.

All pricing and shipping amounts on the website are stated in Canadian funds, and will be converted to US funds.

*Old Sign Stencils has provided me with complimentary samples. All opinions about these fabulous stencils are my own.

I swirled on just the "chicken" graphic and "1932" using Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Caviar.

The dulled blade was nailed back onto the slaw cutter, and a sawtooth hanger was added to the back of the cutter.

My slaw cutter is now a fun display piece for a farmhouse kitchen!   This is my great grandfather in the photo, with horses, in the Minnesota snow.

  1. That's really neat! I can envision those horses in front of a different kind of cutter--a sleigh!
