You Can Stencil on ANYTHING & EVERYTHING

September 09, 2018
This antique dough trough was one of my August garage sale finds.

I paid $15 for it.  It's quite big and pretty rough, not like most of the dough troughs I have seen before.  I think it's more like a crate.

I washed the dough trough inside and out with hot water and Dawn dish soap.

Then I put a spoonful of Fusion Mineral Paint in Champlain, an off white, onto a paper plate.  Fusion Mineral Paint need not to be sealed, so this will work well for my stencil.  For outdoor use, in the elements, I usually spray with a clear spray sealer or urethane.

This is how I stencil.  I dab the paint on a paper plate.  Sometimes I dab on the newspaper as well.  Stenciling works best with a pretty dry brush.

I am going to stencil on the side of my dough trough with the farmers' market stencil.

I taped it on the side (with blue painter's tape), after centering the stencil with a ruler, and pounced on the Fusion Mineral Paint.

How cute is the dough trough with three fall pumpkins inside?

This stencil was made for this dough trough!

These pumpkins are real, but you could definitely use faux pumpkins as well, and place the trough on a dining table, a hearth, a bench...
