From Drab to Fab Thrift Shop Mirror Upcycle with Houndstooth Stencil
September 11, 2018
I found this dated dark wood mirror in my shed last week.
I purchased it at the thrift shop.  It needs a makeover!

I removed the mirror from the frame for easy painting!
I brushed on a coat of *Dixie Belle Paint Company Boss in Clear
.  Boss will prevent dark stain bleeding through my white paint.  It's low odor too!  Much better than shellac or shellac based primers.
*Dixie Belle Paint Company has provided me with complimentary paint products. All opinions about the products are my own.

Next, I applied two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Drop Cloth.  Drop cloth is my new favorite white.
I just got this new houndstooth stencil from **Old Sign Stencils.
I am going to stencil it onto the mirror frame.
Look how the stencil just fit the mirror!
I pounced on the houndstooth pattern using a bristle stencil brush, and Ceramcoat craft paint in black.  I sealed the stencil and Dixie Belle paint with Krylon Gallery Series Clear Coatings Aerosol in Satin Finish
.
Using the Krylon is a safe way to seal stenciling with craft paint. Some sealers will smear the black craft paint when brushed on.

I then added the Tim Holtz Foundry Number Tag from Joann Fabrics.  It's just for fun!
There are 10 assorted tags in the package for $7.99.
Now the mirror makes a statement!
I'm not drab,
