The Junk Garden Potting Bench Plantings Then & Now

July 07, 2022

I planted just one black eyed Susan vine in the planter/sign.  My plan was that the vine would hang down from the planter box and fill in with blossoms.  After about three weeks, the vine looked wilted all the time.  There just wasn't enough soil in the planter box for the growing vine.

Read on below to see the potting bench and sign/planter as well as my previous potting bench photos over the years.

I planted three succulents in the planter box.  There is enough soil for the succulents.

The Suncredible sunflowers  are growing and blooming nicely.

The wash tub is planted with two varieties of marigolds.

The pots on the red iron dolly are planted with Golden Mercardonia annual plants.  They are cute little plants with bright yellow blossoms on rounded mounds.

Next to the dolly is a bucket with a Lantana topiary.

The gerbera daisy plant was moved from the zinc covered potting bench to the little rusty chair.

On this far end is a laundry tub with lazy Susan vines and Solar Tower Lime Sweet Potato Vines.

Now for potting bench photos from previous seasons:

Last season was the first year for this zinc covered table I purchased in the Twin Cities.

The sign/planter was beautiful with verbena.  Diascia were in the pots on the dolly, and I had another lantana topiary.  The rosemary topiary on the potting bench only bloomed once, and after I cut the blossoms off, it never bloomed the rest of the season.

This season I stenciled both the Fresh Cut Flower Planter & the Herbs Crate.

I also stenciled the numbers on the watering cans.

I made the tractor garden flag in a blog post HERE.

This year, I planted herbs in a burlap grow bag planter with liner.

This season red geraniums ruled the front patio.

This season multicolored verbena pots sat on the potting bench.

My window frame planter with red verbenas hung over the potting sink flanked by black eyed Susan vines.

This is an early photo from my blog.  A talented friend of mine painted the geranium sign.

My camera AND photography skills were pretty bad in these early photos.

A patriotic themed potting bench!

This season my picket fence section was on the patio, along with a few old birdhouses.

And finally, the first potting bench.  Or should I say Menard's workbench kit!  I was just starting to collect garden junk.

Thanks for visiting!

  1. I am so jealous of your black-eyed Susan vines. I have never been able to grow them and yours look so lush!
