Thrifted Cup Shape Cocoa Bar Sign With Old Sign Stencils

This MDF/Wood Veneered cup shape was found at my local thrift shop.

The back had a tag from Artminds, a craft company that sells its craft supplies through Michael's.  Apparently someone purchased it with the intention of decorating it.  It just never happened.

I removed the hooks, sanded the holes smooth, and painted the cup with Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Caviar.

I brushed on a total of two coats.

I pulled out my Old Sign Stencils Hot Cocoa Bar Stencil from last Christmas. These 12" square stencils are great for signs of course, but also for decorating thrift shop finds.

By moving the stencil around, I was able to fit the cup and cocoa bar on the cup, but not the word HOT.

All prices on the Old Sign Stencils's website are listed in Canadian currency.  A handy currency conversion link is provided for your convenience.

*Old Sign Stencils provided me with complimentary samples. All opinions about these fabulous stencils are my own.

I pounced on the cup part of the stencil using Fusion Mineral Paint in Raw Silk.

Then, I moved the stencil upward to fit cocoa bar on the bottom of the cup shape.

I very lightly distressed the edges of the cup shape with 220 grit sandpaper.

I painted the hooks and moved them upward and outward on the cup shape.  I then waxed the cup with Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in Clear.

There are two sawtooth hangers on the back of the cup for hanging.  I tied a length of jute twine onto the sawtooths and hung it from the jute.

This sign will work all winter long, and not just during the Christmas season.

Last year, I used the cocoa bar stencil on an old screen HERE.
