A Goodwill Mikasa Wooden Silverware Caddy Receives A Makeover With Paint & Decor Transfers

My daughters picked up a few things at Goodwill in the Twin Cities over Christmas for me to upcycle.

This Mikasa wooden silverware caddy was one of them.

After cleaning up the caddy with hot soapy water and dawn dish soap and a little Krud Kutter, I sanded the outside of the caddy a bit. I tried to lighten up the design on the front.

Next, I brushed on two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Paint in Caviar.  It is available HERE and HERE.

I distressed the caddy edges, just a bit, with 220 grit sandpaper.

I ordered this white rub on transfer sheet on Amazon, Maisie & Willow Delightful Labels. I have used a bit of the transfer on previous makeovers.

Decor transfers can be pricey, but I divide them up among several projects, so not too bad.

I circled the area of the decor transfer that I cut out to apply to the silverware caddy front.

If you need more explanation on how to apply a decor transfer, see my book post HERE.

After I applied the transfer, I waxed the caddy with Big Mama's Butta from Dixie Belle.

I think the caddy is a perfect way to display some of my vintage Oneida Milady silverware.
