My Farmhouse Kitchen Project Featured in Country Sampler Kitchen Makeover Issue
I am so excited to have one of my favorite kitchen makeover projects of all time featured in Country Sampler Farmhouse Style Kitchen Makeover magazine.

Here is my chair back shelf/towel rack project at the right!

I have re-published the instructions for my project below.

Last summer, I was given an old chair with lots of damage.

I told my husband to saw off the back, and get rid of the rest of the chair.

This long, skinny rectangular box was found at a local thrift shop.

I think I paid $1.99 for it.

I blended my paint in a glass jar, about 1/2 paint and 1/2 water, and stirred with a plastic spoon.

The paint needs to be stirred several times during painting.

My first milk paint project did not chip.

I was beginning to wonder about the milk paint on this chair back.

I distressed the milk paint with 150 grit sandpaper.

Sanding really starting the chipping process.

Not too much and not too little, just right!

The wooden box was base coated in Rust-Oleum Painters Touch Latex in Flat Black, and attached to the bottom of the chair back bottom with screws and a washer.

I taped the bottom of the chair back off with blue painter's tape, and brushed on two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Drop Cloth.

I distressed the Drop Cloth paint lightly with 150 grit sandpaper.

A close up of the milk paint after distressing.

It's ultra smooth!

I also added two sawtooth hangers (painted over) and a couple of cup hooks to the wooden box back and underside.

I decided to add the "Bake-Cook-Create" graphics from the Pantry Stencil from *Old Sign Stencils.

I taped the "Pantry" stencil onto the painted box and pounced on the small lettering using Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in CAVIAR.

I used a wax brush to apply Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in Clear I wiped it down with a fiber rag after about 15 minutes after waxing.

I thought there was too big of a gap between the box and the vertical chair back slats, so I added two nickel cup hooks to the bottom of the wood box.

I hung a vintage sifter and jar funnel on the hooks.

A vintage Better Homes and Gardens and a Betty Crocker cookbook fit perfectly in the rectangular box.

I hung two checked tea towels (from Hobby Lobby) on the top vertical chair back slat.

The red/white checked linen towel was stenciled in a blog post HERE.
