Serving Tray Makeover With Matching Sign

This tray was another of my finds from the Bemidji Goodwill last month.

I'm going to give it a makeover.

This scrap of cedar picket was also in on the new project.

I had stained it walnut, but for this project, I simply painted the board with Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Yankee Blue.

I also painted the tray with Dixie Belle Yankee Blue paint.

I used this check stencil from an Artminds pack for both pieces.

The Artminds stencil pack is available at Michael's. (The stencils are made from cardstock, and you have to punch or press them out on the perforations.)

I stenciled the checks onto both the tray and board using Dixie Belle Paint Finish Paint in Colonel Mustard.

The second stencil I used was FolkArt Lazy Day Stencil.

I used Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Fluff to stencil the daisies.

I had two blue iron hooks from Hobby Lobby on hand. I buy them when they are half off, or $1.99 each.

I painted them with Dixie Belle Colonel Mustard before I added them to my stenciled board.

Just in case I want to hang this sign outside, I poly-ed it with Minwax Polycrylic Protective Finish in Matte.

For the tray, I used my FolkArt Layering Block and Ceramcoat Acrylic Paint in Walnut Noyer to add faux distressing to the edges of my tray. (More details on the layering block HERE.)

I sealed the tray with Dixie Belle Satin Clear Coat using a slightly damp sponge brush. I also waxed over the clear coat with Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in Clear.
