Iron On Transfer Graphics for Tea & Coffee Themed Towels

April 01, 2018
I have two more iron on transfer projects, this time with white cotton dish towels.

One features a vintage tea kettle,

And the other a vintage coffeepot.

See the details here:

Again, I used a complimentary, vintage, Graphics Fairy copyright free tea kettle design.

My white dishtowels are from Now Designs White Flour Sack Kitchen Towels.  (Set of three).

I also used Picmonkey, a photo editing program.  I have a subscription to Picmonkey.  If you wish to try it out, they offer a free trial.

I am still learning new features of my Picmonkey subscription every day.

Anyway, I made a graphic that fits an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of iron on transfer paper.  This way I can get two images on one sheet.

Here are my images reversed and ready to print on one sheet of transfer paper.

Please read the directions included with the transfers.  This is the reverse image I used for my towels.  I printed this image on the transfer paper.  I printed it using a full page, shrunk to fit setting, onto the 8 1/2" x 11" transfer paper.  Be sure to print on the non-stripe side.

I used a piece of unfinished bead board paneling on my kitchen table with a pillowcase on top of that.  I set my iron on cotton.  After centering my transfer paper face down on the center bottom of my towels, I pressed down quite hard and kept the iron moving on the paper for a couple of minutes.  I then pulled up the corner just a tad to see if the edge line was transferred.  If not, I continued to iron.

I let it cool for about a minute and then pulled off the paper.

To be honest, I tried my design without the line around it and cut close to the design with scissors but didn't like the look.  The transfer leaves somewhat of line around letters and a little shine too.  I found that the black framing of my design really helped disguise the line and shine too.

Anybody for TEA & SCONES?

The towel is hanging from a vintage wooden purse/tote bag handle.

Or are you a COFFEE & DOUGHNUTS fan?

I love this project!  I get to bring out some vintage favorite pots of mine!

  1. These are super cute! You might want to change the info about PicMonkey though--they no longer offer a free option

  2. Good morning, Carlene. Thanks for the tutorial. The tea towels are cute. Also, what a great way to re -use a wooden purse handle! Your morning coffee must have something my coffee is lacking.
