A $5.49 Re-purposed Vintage Store Paper Roll Holder Plant Stand

September 05, 2014
My plant stand started out as this $5 vintage roll paper holder.

As luck would have it, one of my 49 cent 1 x 6's from Menards was just the right size without any cutting.

I attached the board with three screws from the underside.

I used a palm sander to round the edges and corners just a bit.

I then brushed on a coat of flat black paint.

Then two coats of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Old White.

I distressed the edges, corners, and top surfaces a bit too, and then applied clear wax.

I attached felt pads to the bottom of the iron feet.

  1. Fun idea, Carlene! Looks like a shelf that might work over a sink area, too!

  2. Cute! I could see that being a very versatile little shelf!
Agree with Linda over the sink would be great!

  3. You are a genius of imagination! Every time you make something beautiful and useful out of discarded items, I bemoan the things I've left behind.

  4. Well done! My Aunt and Uncle used to have one of those in their meat market/grocery store that held big rolls of white paper that they wrapped the meat in.

  5. Looks really pretty Carlene. Great idea. I have one of those that might just become a plant stand. Thanks for the inspiration.
