Decorating the Succulent Beds with Junk

May 29, 2014
This morning I have been working in two garden areas planted with Sedums and Sempervivums.

I just purchased this rusty shovel head yesterday.

I printed out the word "grow" on a sheet of paper in a fun font, traced the back of the word with chalk and then transferred it to the rusty shovel by tracing the front of  "grow" with a pencil.

Now I have to use my Rustoleum Decorative White Paint Pen to retrace my temporary chalk letters.

All done!  I sanded the lettering with very fine sand paper just a little bit.  Then sprayed the lettering with Krylon matte sealer.

I leaned my shovel head against a tree.  Soon three different kinds of sedums will fill in this area.

Here is another Sedum and Sempervivum garden area. These sedums were purchased a the "Flaming Carpet" mix.  Angelina, Blue Spruce and Voodoo Sedums.

Last year this succulent bed was "under construction" with a vintage Tonka front end loader, Dollar Tree rocks, and orange cones, here.

This year I have yet another quirky idea that involves these stepping stones...

And four iron shoe forms that I purchased last year thrifting.

We will revisit these succulent beds when the plants have filled in.  Kind of crazy, huh?

  5. I purchase old garden tools at garage sales but my hubby takes one look at them and says "Oh we could use that"! So I don't usually use it for decorating, sometimes though I keep one. Your garden looks really lovely.
