A Two Dollar Thrift Shop Makeover

April 27, 2014
I purchased this oak wall magazine rack recently at the thrift shop for $2.

I painted it with Old White Annie Sloane Chalk Paint, distressed it and added a small piece of stained bead board to the back with nails.  Both the bead board and the rack were waxed with clear soft wax.

Of course I can use it to hold magazines...

But what about to display plates and platters?

  7. I love your rack and where you have it makes it perfect for plates. The last month has been great for thrifting, I discovered a place I had never been and I have bought several pieces of galvanized metal buckets, a coal bucket and a wall pocket, I even found a great milk can, these were all priced below ten dollars except the milk can and I got it for twenty dollars. The best deals though were a little white cabinet that fit perfectly on a wall in my mud room. I think it was probably made in the late 1800's or early 1900's, and I don't have to do a thing to it. It has been a good month for thrifting around here and I'm going back Wednesday. In some ways I hope I find more and then again I really don't need anything else, but it is so hard to pass up a good buy on stuff you love.

  8. Plates and platters-yes. Thrifting is good here. I just got a very old chippy white rocking chair. Also two concrete birdbaths. Hope you are well and happy. I have not been by in a while but am revving back up now that my garden is blooming. xo, olive

  11. Super cute Carlene! Way to think out of the box. Love it! I have a large platter that matches the two round plate you have hanging above it. A thrift find. Found a few treasures on my St. George get away with friends.
