How I Create A Vintage Spring Container Vignette

March 18, 2014
I love container vignettes!  Especially on my dining room table.  I can use multiple items in my vignette, and still easily move my display to clear the table.  I use suitcases, old crates, trays and baskets for container vignettes.  In today's vintage spring vignette I started with this white wooden box with handles.

First I added two vintage gardening books that I recently acquired on one end.

The back of the book is very decorative too so it will work well on one end.

On the opposite side of the books, I placed a rusty lantern with a missing glass insert.  It's nice and tall and balances the books well.

A faux bird's nest and eggs fits perfectly in the lantern.

Now to fill up the middle of my box, I picked a white ironstone French pitcher and a faux greenery zinc pot.

The zinc pot fit pretty well inside the pitcher.

Since I wanted this vignette to be more about spring than Easter, I opted for a bird finial and not a bunny.  The bird is just a little too short to be seen easily in the box.  One of my favorite vignette props is a pillar candle holder.  The bird will stand on the candle holder.

This candle holder is stained wood, but you can paint them too so they match your decor.  They raise up pots quite nicely too.  Candle holders are easily found at thrift shops for $1.

My bird finial is placed in the front of the box.  To fill in around my vignette, I have added moss balls that I purchased at Walmart.  They are various sizes and give the box a finished look.  I also use Christmas ball ornaments, pine cones, Easter eggs and other small items to fill in around my container vignettes.

Here is a stack of small peat pots with Spanish moss and a moss ball inside.

Vintage Tools and Coconut Oil www.organizedclutterqueen.blogspot.com
Here are two recently acquired vintage garden tools.  I washed them up and then coated them with coconut oil.  It deepens the rust and wood tones.

  15. Carlene ... It turned out really pretty. I like everything you added to it, especially the lantern and bird nest. If I have not given all my old lantern to my Son-in-law, I will do that for a spring decoration. Thanks for the inspiration.

  18. It looks so fresh and springy Carlene! That lantern with the nest is the bomb! Do you still have snow???

  19. Carlene, you may have snow outside, but it sure looks like Spring inside! Love your container vignette! Yes, using containers are one of my favorite things to do. Recently picked up a rectangular moss basket to do a vignette in. I also bought a sectional wooden box at a thrift that I am hoping to get painted white. Love your entire display! Drooling over your garden books. I often look for ones with great graphics, but rarely find anything. I have been meaning to pick up a bottle of coconut oil. I remember you using that on some wooden pieces.
