Goodwill Thrifted Wooden Canister Christmas Makeover

December 05, 2022

Photo of three primitive country wooden canisters found at Goodwill.
I found this primitive country wooden canister set at Goodwill about a year ago.

It is a nesting set, so the smaller ones can be stored inside the larger one.  The bottom has a tag that says "For decorative use only", so food can not be placed directly inside the boxes.

After removing the silverware handles on the lids of each box, I gave them a good cleaning with a rag and hot soapy Dawn Dish Soap dishwater.

Next, I brushed on Dixie Belle Chalk Paint in Caviar on the boxes.  I often use Dixie Belle products and you can visit their site HERE.

I painted the lids with Caviar as well.

Since I have no free hand artistic abilities, I once again turned to my stencil bin, and Christmas Graphics from Old Sign Stencils.  I have used this stencil many times before.

More Christmas/Winter graphics, Fall, Garden, and Pattern graphic stencils can ALL be found HERE.  AND they all coordinate with one another!

*Old Sign Stencils has provided me with complimentary samples. All opinions about these fabulous stencils are my own.

I taped the light string stencil off after four lights to fit on the biggest box.

I then swirled the tree light stencil on using Fusion Mineral Paint in Raw Silk.

Next, I swirled the large star on the sides of the smallest box with Rustoleum Metallic Accents Paint in Soft Gold.

I added stars in gold to the bigger boxes, and a string of three Christmas tree lights to the medium box.

I waxed all three boxes and lids with Dixie Belle's Best Dang Wax.  I used both a brush and lint free rag to apply and wipe the surfaces.

I like the boxes stacked like a Christmas tree!

As you know I have incorporated more black paint into my projects in 2022.

I continued this Christmas season's theme of black and gold, with Christmas Graphics, like this sled HERE.

What an easy project, and it can be all tucked inside the large box for storage after Christmas!
