2022 Front Yard Flower Border In Early July & At Planting Time

July 05, 2022

The weather here in northern Minnesota has been cool, and a little wet, but these three Supertunia Picasso in Purple petunia plants in the laundry tub are doing great.  The Lemon Slice Superbell Calibrachoa in the watering can is too.

See my front yard border planting photos over Memorial weekend and current early July photos below.

I am totally in love with this bucket of Intensia Red Hot Annual Phlox plants.

The leaves are hardly visible under all the red blossoms.

AND, it's border lily time. They burst into bloom on the 4th of July!  My other Asiatics bloom a little later.

I am happy with the progress.

This is the middle section of the border.  The Stella d'Oro daylily is just coming into bloom, as are the Mystic Spires Blue Salvia behind the ladder.

Here is the far right of the border in early July.  The Benary Giant Zinnias are now in bloom behind the tub.

Red and white astilbes in the front of the bed will be in bloom soon.

The back row perennials, including the purple coneflowers, globe thistles, shasta daisies, liatris, baby's breath, and black eyed Susans will come into bloom in a few more weeks.

  2. You keep me so inspired to continue my plans for my own junk garden for next Spring, Carlene! One question: Do you mulch all your beds? What kind of mulch do you use? I hate the dyed stuff so I bought natural cedar mulch this year but haven't spread it yet.

    1. I use brown wood chips as mulch, but I don't mulch everywhere. Mostly areas where I have just pots. Thanks Naomi!
