Under The Spruce Tree: Pots of Annuals, Perennials and Junk

Here is this year's under the spruce tree planting.  The spruce tree is next to my deck.  The plants get dappled sunshine throughout the day so I usually plant shade loving plants here.

I also shared pics, of this area, from previous years below.

I have a defined area under the tree, edged with brick pavers.  Several kinds of hostas and a sedum groundcover are planted in the ground.

Galvanized buckets and tubs of wax begonias, coleus, and fuchsias sit on ground level with a funnel planter of impatiens soaring above.  I mulch the area with wood chips.

The fuchsia is in a bucket with a wheel rim under it as a pedestal.  The fuchsia was an inexpensive hanging basket from Menards.

My peacock settee is on the other side of the tree.

The following are photos of the same area in previous years:

This is an early photo of the tree garden.  I had perennial lady's mantle, hostas, and sedums growing here.  I edged the bed with a row of terracotta pots in various sizes.

The next season, I turned the terracotta pots over and planted them with hen and chicks and red impatiens.  The ladybug is a repurposed bowling ball painted by a high school classmate.

Here I expanded the garden area a bit and started adding in the pots and junk.

I like the addition of blooming plants in various pots at different heights.

This season had a lot of pink annuals. Wax begonias above.  They don't need much soil to grow.

In this season, the annuals were mostly red.  Impatiens and wax begonias.  The wax begonias were also inexpensive hanging baskets from Menards.

The red flowers were so pretty!

The begonias were removed from the hanging baskets and planted directly in the soil here.  I stenciled the little wheelbarrow with "Vintage".

Thanks for visiting! I hope you find inspiration from my garden pics.
