I made this rustic board mandala sign a few years back. Today I gave it a farmhouse makeover.

Originally, two scrap rough sawn boards were cut to the exact same size,
AND, then were attached with two thin slats and screws on the back.
Next, I pulled out a new stencil from Old Sign Stencils, Farmhouse Quilt. I used it recently on a little stool HERE.

I painted just the top side of the sign with two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Paint In The Navy.
I then taped my Farmhouse Quilt stencil to the center of the sign. I pounced on the pattern using Colonel Mustard and Driftwood Gray. I moved the stencil up and down, and right and left to fill up the space.
I remembered that I purchased two rectangular cheese boxes at a flea market last July. I found them in my shed.
The Cloverbloom cheese box had navy blue lettering! Perfect!
The top of the cheese box was screwed into the bottom 1/3 of the stenciled sign. (Be careful attaching the cheese box. The wood on the cheese boxes is very thin and brittle. Mine got a small crack in it by the screw, even after predrilling holes.)

I waxed the box and the paint with Dixie Belle's Big Mama's Butta. The dry wood on the cheese box just sucked in the wax.

A sawtooth was added to the back for hanging, and I filled the cheese box with a rustic cutting board, slaw cutter and faux plant.

The result was very farmhouse!
