Today is the April Thrift Store Decor Team blog hop day!

I found this table/nightstand at a thrift shop in the Twin Cities for about $8.  It may have been homemade!  Read on to see its makeover, along with seven other thrifty projects from my blogging friends.

First, I cleaned up the table with hot soapy Dawn Dish Soap water and a rag.

I didn't sand the table as it seemed to have a dark brown paint finish.

I painted the table in a "moody" dark green chalk paint from Dixie Belle called Collard Greens.

Dixie Belle Paint Company provided me with complimentary product samples. All opinions about this fabulous stencil or paint are my own.

This is Retro Star!  A fun new pattern stencil from Old Sign Stencils.

This will be perfect stencil for a Mid Century Modern table!

I lined up the center row of stars with the dowels on one side of the table, and taped it on with blue painter's tape.

I swirled on the star stencils using Rustoleum Metallics Paint in Soft Gold.

I often use this paint for gold accents on my projects.

Since my piece was painted with a dark color, I added a couple drops of paint to my Dixie Belle Gator Hide topcoat. (I saw this tip online)  This helps with possible streaking on the table top.  I also read a tip online to apply Gator Hide with the grain on coat one, against the grain on two and with the grain again on coat three. I did not do three coats on the legs, just the table tops.

I think the table would be perfect next to a bed as a nightstand.

And how about this retro houseplants poster?  It's a Cavallini Decorative Wrap Poster - Houseplants.   My magnetic poster hanger is available HERE.

I'm a plant lover so this one is perfect for me, but there are many more fun posters available for $5.79 on Amazon.
