Upcycled Free Wooden Items

My aunt gave me this little wooden candy box.  She wondered if I could make something out of it.

She also gave me this round wooden box.  

I like an upcycling challenge.  I will create decorative pieces from this free stuff.

First, I painted both wooden pieces with Dixie Belle Chalk Paint in Drop Cloth.

Next, I pulled out this rub on transfer sheet from Dollar Tree,

AND, an inexpensive stencil pack from Folk Art called Architectural.  (I found it at either a Michael's or Walmart.)

I used the above stencils and transfer on the box like so.

I used Fusion Mineral Paint in Ash for the stenciling.

I stenciled the round box with "Herb Garden",

And the lid with the same Folkart stencil I used on the box center.

I added herb seed packets to the my square box.

I have always loved herb projects.

Since I already had the supplies on hand, this project cost me nothing!

  1. Carlene, I love all your herb display projects. So fresh-looking and pretty. I like the rosemary one best, I think. I need to look for some similar boxes to work on. Thanks for sharing these up-cycled projects
