Thrifted Winter/Christmas Sled Makeovers and Wall Display

Photo of a small dated decorative sled from Goodwill.
I found this wooden sled at Goodwill recently.

I gave it a makeover, along with another wooden thrifted sled below.

This is the before photo of the second Goodwill sled.

After removing the wooden snowman figure from the first sled, I was left with some gouges in the wood from a screwdriver.

I removed the sled seat and flipped it over and nailed it back on.  Next, I painted the sled runners with Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Caviar, and the seat top with Fusion Mineral Paint in Bayberry.

Then, I pulled out a fun Merry Christmas stencil from Old Sign Stencils.  Merry Christmas is an older Christmas stencil that perfectly coordinates with all the newer Christmas stencils from Old Sign Stencils.

I pounced on a portion of the stencil using Fusion Mineral Paint in Raw Silk, and then waxed the sled with Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in Clear.

Here is the finished sled with a new piece of jute twine.

The second thrifted sled had the runners painted in Dixie Belle's Caviar as well, but I brushed Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Putty onto the seat.

I used Reindeer Feed, another Christmas stencil from Old Sign Stencils, on the seat, along with more Fusion Mineral Paint in Raw Silk.

This slat sign, also a Goodwill find, received a makeover to match the sleds.

I brushed Fusion Mineral Paint in Raw Silk on the sign, but left the edges of the sign unpainted.

After one coat, the lettering from the previous sign was still visible, so I brushed on coat two.

I then used a 2021 Christmas stencil, Vintage Sled Company, from Old Sign Stencils. I love this new stencil, and used it on a toolbox project HERE.

I positioned the sign horizontally, and taped the stencil on the left side of the sign.

I stenciled the script and graphic using Dixie Belle Chalk Paint in Caviar.

I pounded nails into the sign, and dabbed the shiny nail heads with Fusion's Raw Silk.

I added a sawtooth to the top back of the sign, and hung my sleds on the nails.

See what I mean! The stencils all coordinate so well together.
