Thrifted Santa Tray To DIY Monogrammed Gift

November 17, 2021

Photo of a thrifted Santa snack tray.
I found this Santa tray at a thrift store for $2.99.

I transformed it into a personalized monogrammed gift tray.

Photo of removing vinyl Santa snack tray stenciling.
The tray had vinyl decoration versus stenciling, so I peeled it off.

I used a screwdriver to start the edge, and then the letters and graphics came up pretty easy.

After giving the tray a cleaning with hot soapy water and a rag and removing the handles, I brushed on a couple coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Drop Cloth.

I really like this stencil, especially on trays.

I taped the stencil (which had been cut down to fit a round tray) onto the tray with blue painter's tape.

Always measure to make sure the stencil is centered!

I pounced on the stencil with Dixie Belle's Silk Acrylic Paint in Juniper.  Juniper is a limited edition fall paint color.  Other green acrylic paints would work.

Photo of uppercase 2" adhesive stencils.
This is a 2" uppercase adhesive alphabet stencil package that I purchased several years ago.  I think any 2" or even 3" uppercase letter stencil would work inside the wreath.

I pounced on the letter "C" using Fusion Mineral Paint in Ash.

I didn't distress the tray at all.  The tray was sealed with Painter's Touch Clear Matte Spray.

The tray is water resistant but not waterproof.

I think the tray is great as a decor piece rather than a serving tray.

Easy DIY gift idea!  Pin for later.
