Goodwill Shadow Box Fall Decor Makeover

Welcome to the monthly Thrift Store Decor Team party!

My project for today began with this white shadowbox from Goodwill.  I paid $2.99 for it.

After giving the shadowbox a good cleaning with hot soapy Dawn Dish Soap water and rag, I spray painted the piece outdoors, in N95 mask, using Krylon Classic White Chalk Spray Paint, clips, label frames and all.

The shadowbox was made of MDF with very white paint finish.  The spray paint gives it a matte finish in an off white.

Next, I pulled out my Foliage Collector Decor Transfers by Redesign With Prima.

There are three 6" x 12" transfer design sheets in the package, priced at $12.99.

I applied three of the transfers with the flat rectangular stick enclosed in the decor transfer package.

I scored the transfer along the grooves in the shadowbox, and sealed the chalk spray paint and transfers with Painter's Touch Multi Purpose Clear Matte Spray.  Spraying the piece was a much easier option than wiping on wax.

I added a small transfer to a paper tag from Michael's.  A piece of jute was strung through the tag's hole, and the tag was hung on one of the shadowbox clips.

I then printed out some fall object words on Picmonkey in different sizes and fonts.

I didn't have any card stock on hand, so I printed the words on plain paper, traced cardstock tags over the words and cut them out.  I placed the the paper words and thicker file tags into the metal label frames. The paper labels were so thin that they did not stay in place.  With the thicker tag behind them, the paper words stayed in place.

Then, all that was left was to fill the shadowbox with fall goodies, like pinecones and pumpkins.

And faux acorns.

The shadowbox has a sawtooth hanger on the back for hanging, but it is equally as good on a shelf or table.

A shadowbox is a great place to display minis, and the fall decor transfers add color and interest.

Lots of layers and textures.

  3. Very nice. I also love how you can use different items another year! I love small ceramic/resin figures, some salt and pepper sets; I'd have a field day with your shadow box!
