Christmas Makeover Of A Thrifted Ducks Unlimited Box With Old Sign Stencils & Decor Transfers

October 17, 2021

I picked up this wooden box with handles at Goodwill for $2.99.

It must have been part of a Ducks Unlimited Gift Box Assortment as ducks were imprinted on one side and the logo was imprinted in one corner.

I used a palm sander to sand off the imprinted ducks.

After giving the box a good cleaning, I then brushed on just one coat of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Barn Red.

I left the inside and bottom of the box unpainted.

I pulled out my Mini Christmas Tree Signs stencil by Old Sign Stencils from last season.  I love all of the stencils in Donna's Christmas stencil line! I use them over and over again on different projects, and also mix them together for a whole new look.  See my 2021 metal Christmas bucket project HERE using this stencil AND a decor transfer too.

If you aren't into Christmas projects quite yet, check out the Old Sign Stencils fun fall stencils HERE.

All prices on the Old Sign Stencils's website are listed in Canadian currency.  A handy currency conversion link is provided for your convenience.

*Old Sign Stencils provided me with complimentary samples. All opinions about these fabulous stencils are my own.

I pounced on the stencil using Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Furniture Paint in Putty and Drop Cloth, and distressed the box all over lightly with 220 grit sandpaper.

I chose to use my third Christmas small transfer pack from Maika's Daughters, Holiday Spirit on the wooden box too.  I am loving these small decor transfer designs from Redesign with Prima! They are perfect for small projects and priced at $12.99 for three 6" x 12" design sheets.

I cut out two of the designs and rubbed them on the sides of the box using the rectangular stick provided in the decor transfer package.
