A Rusty Metal Child's Folding Chair Becomes Rustic Fall Decor

This little rusty metal folding chair was a $3 purchase at a local flea market AND one of my End of July finds HERE.

The chair had a fun rusty, worn patina, but I hated these paint drips.

I lucked out when the paint drips scraped off quite easily with a screwdriver.

After washing the chair down well with hot soapy Dawn Dish Soap water, I pulled out this FolkArt Holiday Value Stencil Pack (from Amazon). It is also available at Hobby Lobby.

The stencils are paper so you have to be very careful pressing or punching them out.  There are stencils for holidays throughout the year and I have used many of them on holiday projects for this blog.

I taped an oak leaf stencil on the top part of the chair, and pounced on the stencil using Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Colonel Mustard.

I taped the whole stencil on the seat of the chair.

I took the chair outside and sprayed on several coats of Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch 2X Cover in Ultra Matte.

Besides adding protection, the spray sealer deepened the stencil colors and gave the rusty patina a smooth finish.

The little chair will likely be displayed this fall on my covered patio.

I really like how my little chair turned out!
