Landscaping Changes And More Spring Junk Gardening

This area, just past my deck, was overgrown with groundcovers, like sedum and creeping Jenny. The area has always been a problem. The previous owners left part of a cracked cement patio there and put a deck over most of it.

What started out as, me planting a few thyme plants in the cracks, became an overgrown groundcover mess with weeds and grass coming up within the clumps of sedums. Thank goodness my husband helped me on this job!

Moving farther down the side of the house, these hostas were the only perennials growing here. I will be saving them.

This area was mulched with bark chips, and has been a great place to display my junk.

My husband added landscape fabric to the two areas.

This part was a little trickier, cutting around the hostas.

After the landscape fabric was down, river rock from Menards was spread over both areas. Both areas are edged with 4"x 4" treated wood.

I purchased this grain scoop at a garage sale this season. It's perfect for holding a couple of plants.

I added a stencil to the side of the scoop with this grains stencil and Fusion Mineral Paint in Raw Silk.

A red Calliope geranium is planted in the back and a Lanai red verbena is planted in front. The pails have holes drilled in them, and the scoop has a couple of drainage holes as well.

This little rusty folding chair was one of my fabulous finds junk shopping in the Twin Cities. I stenciled it with one of my new Herb Label stencils from Old Sign Stencils.

I left the section of picket fence at the back. It is fastened to my deck for support.

Other red geraniums and red verbena have been planted in pails/pots, and the area is decorated with a rusty folding chair, a weathered wood table, a window frame, and old farm and garden tools.
