A Stenciled Rustic Tool Box For My Vintage Garden Tool Collection

May 10, 2021

I found this old, rustic, wooden toolbox at an antique shop.  It is missing a handle, but I love the rustic metal strip on each end.

I thought it would make a perfect display piece for my vintage garden tools.

This is the front view of the toolbox.

I will not be painting it, as the patina is already great.

But, I will be stenciling it with a new GARDEN TOOLS stencil from Old Sign Stencils.

Photo ideas for stencil variations of a garden tools stencil
As always, the summer garden stencils can be mixed with other stencils to create many more variations.

The garden tools stencil will work perfectly on my toolbox.

I taped the bottom portion of the stencil on the front side of the toolbox and taped it down with blue painter's tape.  Make sure to center your stencil with a ruler for best results.

I swirled and pounced on the stencil using Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Drop Cloth.

I stenciled both toolbox ends with the wheelbarrow graphic and the word "garden".

I wiped Fusion Mineral Paint Hemp Oil Wood Finish  on the sides of the toolbox and the stencils to seal and protect them.

I also wiped my vintage garden hand tools down with the Hemp Oil and a rag.

I seldom use these tools, but I like to display and collect them. I placed two old enamelware coffeepots and a galvanized pot inside the toolbox to hold the tools.
