Repurposing A Dollar General Family Photo Collage Frame For Flower Garden Photos

April 05, 2021

I found this tag shaped photo collage frame at Dollar General.  It was priced at $5.  It's actually a nice frame.

When I upcycle some dollar store items, I do it because I want the item to be MY style or meet MY needs.  In this case I wanted to use the collage frame for flower garden photos and not family photos.

First, I removed the jute twine and sanded down the raised lettering on the frame with sandpaper.

Next, I brushed on a couple of coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Drop Cloth.  I lightly distressed the edges with 220 grit sandpaper.

Photo Vintage Labels decor transfer sheet

This is one of my favorite kind of decor transfers!  One that I can use on many projects.

I cut out three possibilities. (The magnet just keeps the transfer from curling)

This one has French garden words.

This one refers to flower and garden seeds.

And this one is a seed catalog label.

I chose the seed store transfer.  I cut just a bit more off the bottom to make it fit better.

Here is the frame with the decor transfer applied.

I sealed the transfer and paint with Dixie Belle Easy Peasy Spray Wax.

I printed four 3" x 3" garden photos (from my flower gardens) on my inkjet printer.

I wasn't sure how to print 3" x 3" photos, but I was able to add two at a time to a 4" x 6" collage template on Picmonkey, print them on 4" x 6" photo paper, and cut them out.

This frame is just my style!
