Dollar Tree Reverse Canvas Stenciled Herbs

February 24, 2021

I love that Dollar Tree now has art canvases.  I purchased three 5" x 7" canvases.

I like these Martha Stewart adhesive herb stencils. I pulled them out of my stencil stash.

First, I deconstructed the frames.

Believe me, pulling the staples was not an option for me. They were very tough to get out, so I cut out around the staples on the suggestion of Susan at the Homeroad blog.

Susan recently created these Valentine's Day framed canvases HERE.

I decided to flip the canvases over and use the back side that had not been covered with a white finish.

My Martha Stewart Herb Garden stencils fit the canvases perfectly.

I purchased my stencils at a Michael's craft store, but you could choose any stencils that fit in the 5" x 7" canvas.

As I said, I was too much of a wimp to remove all the staples, especially when they were on the back of the frames.

The only thing I did to the frames was apply Varathane Weathered Wood Accelerator in Gray with a old paint brush.

I pounced on the stencils with Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Caviar.

I used Aleene's Original "Tacky" Glue to adhere the frames on the canvases.

I placed an iron and a heavy dictionary on the frames and canvases until the glue was dry.

When the glue was dry, I cut the excess canvas off with a scissors.

I love the neutral look with the weathered farmhouse style frames (not mitered).

You put them on a shelf and lean them against the wall or...

Add sawtooth hangers on the back and hang them on a wall.
