A Vintage Ice Cream Chair Makeover

March 19, 2020
I purchased this vintage ice cream chair a long time ago at an auction.

I painted the iron parts with Rustoleum Heirloom White Paint.

In 2014, I had a fairly new blog, and followed other blogs.  Annie Sloan Chalk Paint was all the rage, and I purchased Old White and French Linen to paint the chair.  As you can see I wasn't a great stenciler in 2014.

This chair has been sitting in one of my bathrooms since 2014.

Yesterday, I decided to give the chair a makeover, and painted it Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Caviar.
I just received new *Redesign With Prima Transfers, including Gilded Home & Nature.

*Redesign With Prima has provided me with complimentary samples. All opinions about these fabulous transfer products are my own.

This stick is included in the transfers' tube to rub the transfer onto your project.

The Gilded Home & Nature tube contains three sheets of gold transfers.

Sheet 2.

Sheet 3.

It took two coats of Caviar paint to cover the Annie Sloan paints.

I chose this transfer to add to the seat of my ice cream chair.

Since I don't upcycle a lot of buffets or dressers, this type of transfer with multiple uses on smaller items is perfect for me.

I removed the paper backing and carefully centered the transfer (without sticking it down).

When I was satisfied with the placement, I used the rectangular stick to rub the gold transfer onto my chair seat.  It's really pretty easy.  Just carefully pull up the clear plastic top to make sure the transfer is stuck down.  If not, rub some more.

I wasn't originally planning to distress the chair, but I ended up adding light distressing with 220 grit sandpaper.

I sealed the chair with Dixie Belle Satin Clear Coat and a cheap foam brush. I applied two thin coats.

I haven't shared my vintage coral tiled bathroom in ages.

Besides coral tile, the bathroom has a custom vanity the length of one long wall.  One end of the vanity has a cutout for a vanity chair.

I have been using the ice cream chair as a vanity chair.

Even though the vanity was painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in French Linen, I still like the black chair color better.  It matches a couple of my black tole trays on the bathroom wall.

I hope you and your families are all well and safe.
