Upcycled Thrifted Wooden Table Organizer With Monochromatic Stencils

February 15, 2020

This little wooden, divided box was a recent Goodwill find.

The tag on the bottom said Threshold Table Organizer, so I think it was from Target.  It has metal corners and a fun metal tag on the front.

First I gave the box a good wipe down with hot, soapy Dawn Dish Soap water and a rag.

I also removed the tag and the metal corners.

The corners were nailed on but the metal tag was screwed on with tiny screws.  My eyeglass repair kit's Phillips screwdriver was the perfect size.

Next, I brushed on a couple coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Caviar.  I used a foam brush.

It works so well on the sides of drawers or trays.  It sticks down, and stays stuck down, until you pull it up.

My plan here was to stencil the floral pattern on the Caviar black paint with Fusion Mineral Paint in Ash.

Ash is more of a charcoal black, and Fusion Mineral Paint has a little more of a shine than Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint.

This was the monochromatic look I had hoped to achieve.

I waxed the box with Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in Clear, using a wax brush and a fiber rag.

I replaced all the corner pieces, and the tag on the box.

The rustic little wooden box has taken on a sophisticated appearance, for sure.

I purchased two of these tall galvanized vases at Hobby Lobby.  (When they were 50% off of course.)

I brushed on a couple coats of the Caviar paint, and lightly distressed the vase edges and ridges with 220 grit sandpaper.

I ordered this white rub on transfer sheet on Amazon, Maisie & Willow Delightful Labels.

The white transfers work on dark paint colors.  They are not cheap, but just a small section of sheet will be used for each project (so maybe 10 more projects or more).

Here is one of the vases with a butterfly and "Fleurs".

The other vase has a crown and French script.

How do you like the monochromatic stenciling?
