Thrifted HOME Sign Makeover

I found this Home Sign at our local thrift shop recently. It still had it's tag from Joann Fabrics attached. It was from Joann's fall decor line 2017.
I am going to give it a makeover, BUT it's not really an upcycle. This sign is not dated, and not in bad condition. I'm just changing it more to my style.

After wiping it off with a damp rag, I brushed on two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Drop Cloth.
I used a foam brush and was careful not to get paint into the horizontal faux ship lap board lines.
I pulled out one of my 12" x 12" paper stencil packs, FolkArt Die Cut Paper Farm Life Stencil Value Pack.
The pros of these stencil packs is price. The package contains 26 - 12" x 12" paper stencils. The cons include pressing out all of the paper perforations, that is time consuming. Another con is durability, and some of the stencils in the pack are kinda corny.
I chose a checked pattern stencil, and pressed it out on the perforations.
I used a foam brush and was careful not to get paint into the horizontal faux ship lap board lines.

I also cut the stencil to fit the sign vertically. I slid the stencil to the right and left, and lined it up to complete the horizontal stenciling.
I swirled and pounced the stencil on using Fusion Mineral Paint in Fort York Red.
I painted the wreath "O" with a lighter green paint but didn't like it.
I ended up painting it with Caviar as well, and waxed the whole sign using Dixie Belle Best Dang Furniture Wax in Clear.
I used a fiber rag to apply the wax, but a wax brush works well for application of Best Dang Wax also.

My sign makeover has a more casual appearance.
Other ideas would have been to paint the frame and the wreath another color than gold and keep it neutral, or add a 3D faux plant wreath for the "O".
I couldn't find one the right size, but I could have made one from a piece of faux plant garland.
I think I may hang the new Home sign in the kitchen!
