Rustic Barn Red Child's Chair Gets A Christmas Nordic Makeover

I've had this little, rustic, barn red chair for several years.
It appeared in a garden vignette on my blog back in 2014.
Even though I love red, last week I decided to give it a new look.

Yes, from red to gray.
I brushed on a couple coats of a gray chalk paint that I had on hand, Rust-Oleum Chalked Paint in Country Gray.

This stencil was my favorite of the three pack. It's like a Nordic sweater pattern.
I centered and taped the top of the stencil pattern on the top chair back slat. I stenciled with a ROYAL BRUSH 1/4" stencil brush
, Fusion Mineral Paint in Fort York Red,
and Ceramcoat Acrylic Paint in White.
I then moved the stencil to the right and to the left, realigned the stencil pattern, and continued the stenciling pattern to the edges. The edges were a little tricky.
I did the same for the bottom slat, then very lightly wet distressed the chair, and lastly sealed the paint with Minwax Polycrylic Protective Finish in Matte.
It took two coats.

The stencil looks a little bit crooked. However, I don't think it's all me. The bottom of the stencil stayed lined up so I'm thinking part of the problem is the chair slats are not even on the tops.
The chair's knobs on top are not the same shape or size either, but it's a fun little chair.
A little Scandinavian Christmas, anybody?
My wall art is an Anneko Swedish Dish Cloth, complete with red Dala horse. I paid $5.95 for it at a local drug store.
It is perfect with my little chair! I even thought about adding a fabric back to the dish cloth and making a small pillow.
