Wood Slice/Live Edge Rustic Christmas Decor Signs

October 25, 2019
I shared these live edge wood pieces purchased at July garage sales HERE.

They are commonly sold at craft stores for wood burning art.

To start my wood projects, I mixed up some Homestead House Milk Paint in Bayberry according to the directions.

When using milk paint on raw wood, milk paint soaks in sort of like a stain.

I brushed on two coats of milk paint, and sanded the painted areas with 220 grit sandpaper to distress.

Next I tried various Christmas stencils from *Old Sign Stencils on my newly painted wood slices.

Old Sign Stencils mix and match so easily, that it is a snap to create many new stencil looks!

I stenciled all of the lettering and graphics with Fusion Mineral Paint in Champlain.

I waxed the milk paint with Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in Clear and a waxing brush.

Eye screws were added to the tops of the signs, and jute strings were tied on as hangers.

I love the bayberry paint color in both Homestead House Milk Paint and Fusion Mineral Paint.

Links to all of the stencils used in this project, are at the bottom of this post!

The live bark edge around the wood slices adds to the rustic vibe of my signs.

A mug of cocoa with marsh mellows and snowflakes are stenciled on these smaller wood slices.

The largest wood slice is a Christmas Blend Cocoa sign.

This vintage child's chair received a makeover in August, with Bayberry paint and Old Sign Stencils HERE.

Here are all of the signs in one wall grouping, but of course they can all hang separately too.

The Old Sign Stencils that I mixed and matched on these wood slice signs include:
"Merry Christmas"  from this stencil for the first rectangular sign.

For rectangular sign two, the word "Tree" and the tree graphic.

The next two round and oval signs display mug and snowflake stencils from this winter graphics stencil.

And finally, for the largest oval sign, I pounced and swirled on stencils from the Christmas Blend Hot Cocoa stencil.

All prices on the Old Sign Stencils's website are listed in Canadian currency.  A handy currency conversion link is provided for your convenience.

*Old Sign Stencils provided me with complimentary samples. All opinions about these fabulous stencils are my own.
