A Colonel Mustard Shipping Crate Table with Old Sign Stencils

September 04, 2019

This bright blue crate was on of my June garage sale finds.

It was $2.

The crate was bright orange, before it was bright blue.

My daughter talked me into buying Colonel Mustard.  She claimed mustard is the new "in" color for clothes and decor.

So I painted the crate in Colonel Mustard after giving it a good cleaning.

The inside and bottom of the crate were painted in a cheaper paint, Rust-Oleum Painters Touch Latex in Flat Black.

Besides the new paint color, I am tried out a brand new stencil from *Old Sign Stencils, Shipping Crate Stamps.

This stencil is perfect for pallet wood projects or old crates, especially unpainted.  More fun ideas HERE.

I positioned parts of the stencil all over the crate and pounced on the stencil using Fusion Mineral Paint in Ash.

Four Hobby Lobby hairpin legs were added to the bottom of the crate with screws.

These legs come in two sizes and are frequently offered at 50% off.

The crate is painted, stenciled, and the legs are on.

I chose not to distress the crate because I didn't want the blue or orange showing through in distressed areas.

I chose to use my FolkArt Layering Block.

I painted a strip of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Hurricane Gray on the bottom of my layering block.

Then I ran the layering block along the edges of the crate.

I sealed the paint and stencils with Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in Clear.  The Dixie Belle Paint website is a great resource for videos on "how to use their products".

Remember with stenciling and the layering block, you can touch up any mistakes with more paint.
