A Christmas Dollar Tree Wood Cutout Project

September 24, 2019

Dollar Tree is really upping their game this year in the holiday craft department!

I found this unfinished wood "Let It Snow" cutout there, a couple days ago, for one dollar.

First, I brushed on a coat of Varathane Weathered Wood Accelerator.  The Weathered Wood Accelerator gives the raw wood an aged appearance.

Next I used a small foam brush to rub on a  light, messy coat (every which way) of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Fluff.  This technique applies a semi-transparent coat of paint, that allows some of the weathered wood to show through in some places.

When I decided to hang the cutout from an old wooden hanger, I filled the pre-drilled hole on the center "t" with wood filler, and painted it.

Small holes were then drilled in the "L" and last "t".  Eye screws were added to the hanger, and the cutout was attached with jute twine.

I attached a small white button to the center of the snowflake with tacky glue.

I added a two inch metal label frame, (often used on drawers) to the top of the hanger.

I used a font on Picmonkey to print the word "winter" on my inkjet printer, cut it out, and added it to the frame.  This is sort of a trial and error process with me.  I print it in several font sizes and hope one of them fits!

I think the old wooden hanger adds a bit of whimsy to the Dollar Tree winter wood cutout!

  1. Cute! Unfortunately it looks like our weather forecast for this weekend and I am not quite ready for that season yet lol. Will have to check our Dollar Tree (we have a few here - I am in Canada)
