Up-cycled Watering Can & Repurposed Paint Finish Sample Signs

July 15, 2019

A couple weeks ago, I was lucky enough to receive some free garden junk, including this watering can.

This galvanized watering can had been painted with black paint.

I chose Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Pink Champagne to repaint the watering can.

Pink Champagne is a very light shade of pink.

I brushed on two coats.

Next I lightly distressed the watering can with 220 grit sandpaper.

The light pink paint gives my watering can a shabby chic vibe, so I decided to add a transfer from a Prima Marketing Iod Decor Transfers for Pots,

AND, a floral transfer from Redesign Decor Transfer - Fuchsia Sunset.

Transfers are pretty easy to add, and give your project, a lot more detail than even stenciling.

To seal the paint and stencils, I sprayed the watering can with Dixie Belle Easy Peasy Spray Wax, and rubbed the wax with a PFC fiber rag.

I think I will be displaying this watering can indoors.

My former boss asked me if I could use some 9" x 12" paint finish samples for a project or projects.

I took them home.  A few were painted finishes and a few were wood finishes.  Most were distressed.

Some of the newest stencils from *Old Sign Stencils fit the paint finish boards quite well.

I made several signs with the *Fresh Coffee Stencil.

Who doesn't like fresh coffee?

I love anything flower garden and this *Garden Shop Stencil has been one of my favorites.

The *Herbs stencil can be used for signs or decor indoors or out!

Another of my new favorites is this *Grain Blend stencil.

The rooster is too fun!

The *Stone Milled Flour stencil is a perfect kitchen stencil.

The *Sugar stencil looks great on the red paint finish sample.

*Old Sign Stencils provided me with complimentary samples. All opinions about these fabulous stencils are my own.

The paint samples all had holes drilled in the top corners that I used with jute twine for hangers.

The dark boards were stenciled with Fusion Mineral Paint in Champlain, and on the lighter boards, I used Fusion Mineral Paint in Coal Black.

I sealed the tops of the boards and stenciling with Minwax Polycrylic Protective Finish in Matte.

I applied two coats.

It looks pretty good with the shabby chic watering can.

  1. Love the signs - especially the "fresh coffee" and the stone-milled flour. The watering can looks great. I want it!
