Shabby Chic/Boho Junk Garden Vignette

July 08, 2019

I am always thinking up new ideas for outdoor junk garden vignettes around my yard.

I was thinking shabby chic/boho style for an area in the back yard, along the house wall that gets part sun and quite a bit of shade.

My first step was to stencil the old enamelware coffeepot with a mandala stencil.

I used this mandala stencil from Hobby Lobby, along with Fusion Mineral Paint in Champlain.

I have become very comfortable stenciling on metal.  Fusion Mineral Paint works well on the hard surface.  Just be sure to use a pretty dry brush and do extra coats if you need the stenciling darker.

For this little coffeepot, I used a boho flower stencil from Hobby Lobby.

I added a pink seed geranium to each coffeepot.

Other items in this vignette include a rustic stenciled toolbox planter project (planted with wax begonias), a wooden slat star I purchased locally, an old white screen door, a large wooden flower, a bucket of dragon wing begonias, a milk can with a pot of dianthus, and a primitive style window screen/jello mold flower, all situated around a Bark Shaving Horse.

Kind of a crazy busy vignette!

This area was super shady for several years until some trees were thinned out.

When it was very shady, I had few plants and more junk.

  1. Carlene, your taste and appreciation or "junk" is so similar. I love all your outdoor vignettes! I especially love that green screed door and the old bark shaving horse.

Question: Is a dragon lea_ begonia the same as an angel-wing begonia? I have what I've always called an angel-wing but have not heard o_ a dragon lea_. (I don't know i_ I've told you that my keyboard won't type the sixth letter o_ the alphabet anymore. Thus the dashes.)

    1. There is an angel wing begonia as well. The leaves aren’t as waxy and they are pointier! Thanks so much!
