An Awesome New Christmas Trees Stencil From Old Sign Stencils - 2 Ways

I love free. I got two of these art canvases free at a garage sale last summer.
They had been base coated white and had a curved red stripe painted on them.
I sanded down the red stripe a bit as the paint had a build up of layers.

I painted both canvases with Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Caviar

I love this shade of black, and the paint is very matte.

I decided to buffalo check, one of the canvases, using my *Old Sign Stencils' stencil.
I then placed the stencil in the center of the canvas, and used blue painter's tape to keep it in place while stenciling.
Make sure to measure, or your pattern will not be even on all sides.
I used DecoArt Chalky Finish Paint in Rouge
to pounce on the red checks.
After the center was stenciled, I moved the stencil up, down, right and left to complete the pattern on the canvas top.
I will be using my new *Old Sign Stencils Christmas Tree stencil over the buffalo checks.

I applied a very light coat of Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in Clear
with a clean, lint free rag. I love this water based wax. It's easy to apply.

Canvas number one is done. I added a sawtooth hanger to the back.
I just love it!
Perfect for a northern Minnesota, lumberjack, or cabin Christmas!
THEN for canvas two, I added the Christmas Trees Stencil with Dixie Belle's Drop Cloth.
I had the stencil positioned lower on the canvas.
I then added falling snow to the canvas using the *Old Sign Stencils Mini Christmas Patterns stencil.
Since I had never used this stencil before, I started in one top corner and moved the stencil to the left across the top, and then did one more row of stencils beneath the first row.
I matched the large corner circles as I moved the stencil across the canvas.
I added the stencil's circles between the trees on the second row, and randomly added a few circles here and there to even out the falling snow.
I added a light coat of Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in clear to seal the stencils.
I'm not sure which canvas I like best.
I'm loving this black and white one with my neutral mantel.

I used the Christmas Trees stencil on an old crate too!
You can stencil just Trees on both back and front and Pine, Spruce and Fir on the ends for a year round crate.
I added Christmas to one side of my crate, after all it's dark green!

I like the black and white one with the trees and snow and I love the frame you have it in. That's a beautiful piece by itself
