Goodwill Faux Printer Tray to Stenciled Christmas Farmhouse Decor

November 12, 2017
I don't get to the Twin Cities very often, but I was able to visit a Goodwill in St. Louis Park.

I found this divided wood tray (among other things).

I wasn't sure exactly what my purchase was originally.
*One of my readers identified this item as a Mancala board.

Since I have had some problems with white chalk paint and stain bleed through lately, I added an extra step and brushed on two coats of Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 White Water-Based Interior/Exterior Primer Sealer.

I pulled out this adhesive stencil with Happy Words from FolkArt.

I laid out my stencils like so, and pounced on my Ceramcoat Acrylic Paint in Black.

I added a National Hardware 4" Sash Lift in Satin Nickel to the top.  After all, it's a faux printer's tray drawer now.

I sealed my project with Minwax Paste Finishing Wax in Natural.  I applied the wax with a paper towel.

Here is my stenciled tray with a pine tree wood cutout nailed on.  The cutout is a Holiday Time Mini Ornament I purchased at Walmart.

The wreath is from CWI Gifts.  I purchased it at a local drug store for $4.95.  The wreath is hanging from a small nail on the tray.

Drill the hole with a fine bit before adding the nail.

  3. This is really cute. I think it was originally a Mancala board. It is a game played with stones or beans or marbles.
