Add Farmhouse Style To A Garage Sale Shelf With Paint & Stencils

October 03, 2017
I purchased this wooden shelf in August at a garage sale.  I gave it a makeover.

First I brushed on a of couple coats of Rustoleum 30 Oz Light Tint Base Chalked Ultra Matte Paint mixed as Chiffon Cream.

Farmhouse Stencil from Old Sign Stencils
I pulled out my 26.3" (small) Farmhouse Stencil from *Old Sign Stencils.

Using Ceramcoat Acrylic Paint in Black, I stenciled FARM on one side and HOUSE on the other.

I also used the FARM Local seal at the bottom of this Hobby Lobby stencil on the center top of the shelf.

I also used my FolkArt Layering Wood Block to faux distress the edges of my shelf along with Ceramcoat Acrylic Paint in Walnut .

More information about my technique with the layering block can be found here.

It's a nice sized little shelf.

Perfect for displaying vintage kitchen collectibles.

I sealed the Chalked Paint and stenciling with Varathane Clear Matte Finish Soft Touch Polyurethane.

Paint and stencils added new life to the dingy little shelf.

  3. You are amazing! I love all your projects! Do you keep them or sell them ? I'd find it hard to part with any of them but the house would get so full!
