Outdoor "Farmhouse" Barn Door Sign/Planter Box with Old Sign Stencils
May 14, 2017
I purchased this partial barn door with awesome rusty hardware last year at a local consignment shop.  It was a rustic backdrop last season to some of my container gardens.
This year I decided to stencil on the door with Fusion Mineral Paint Coal Black
 and Dreamweaver Stencil Brush
.  Fusion Mineral Paint will hold up better than craft paint in the outdoor elements, but I will use a coat or two of Krylon Satin Finish Spray
 on the stenciling as well.
I measured and taped the large "Farm House" stencil from *Old Sign Stencils onto my door horizontally.
I added two eye screws to the back of the door along with a wire for hanging, and also added a $1 wooden window box I picked up at a church rummage sale.  I brushed on some steel wool and vinegar stain to add a little more weathering to the window box.  The top board was screwed to the back of the door so it wouldn't fall forward at the hinges.
I purchased 5 succulents at our local Menards.  The succulents will work well with the shallow planter box.
Finally I pounded two finishing nails to the left of the hasp to hang a couple of vintage garden hand tools.  Fun and rustic junk garden decor!
*Old Sign Stencils provided me with complimentary samples.
All opinions about these fabulous products are my own.
