Milk & Cream Company Framed Stenciled Sign

April 11, 2016

I purchased this square frame at a thrift shop last year.  It and unfinished frame that I stained with the vinegar and steel wool grayish stain.  Then I never did anything else with it, until now, when I found a square of Russian birch plywood (for crafts) at my local Menards.  I think it was $1.99.

First I painted part of the plywood square with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White.

Then I pounced on Knick of Time's Milk & Cream Co.  stencil with black acrylic craft paint.

I cut the plywood about a half inch smaller than the frame and nailed it on with finishing nails.

Lastly I distressed the frame with 220 grit sandpaper to give it a chippy appearance but barely sanded the lettering.  Then I applied Decoart Clear Wax.  It is a water based wax that I have come to like better than ASCP wax, because of it's ease of application.

I love how it turned out.  The frame gives the great sign even more presence.
