Easy Easter Or Year Round Wall Decor From Thrift Shop Piece

March 14, 2015
I am not sure of the original use for this board.  I purchased it at the thrift shop for 59 cents.  It has a shiny polyurethane coating so I don't think it was a cutting board.  It also had a leather string.

This will be my first project in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in "Duck Egg Blue".  I painted the board with two coats.

I purchased this fluted zinc "Norah" vase at a local floral shop.  It was only $3.50.  I love the rustic finish.

I screwed the metal can onto my board.

Then I wet distressed my duck egg blue paint with a paper towel and a Dawn scrubber.  When it was dry I applied clear wax with a wax brush.

Then I hung my project on the wall and proceeded to decorate it.  First for Easter, with pink floral buds, a vintage rabbit cookie cutter and a brown tag that I stamped with a bunny silhouette.  The tag is tied on through the hole with jute.

And after Easter, if you want to use the holder year round, you can add a pot of herbs and a stamped "HERB" tag.

Easy, cheap and fun decorating with thrift shop finds!

  2. Scarceness - love this project. I agree that it must have started out as a cutting board but strange that it was so finished. Love what you did with it.

  7. Really cute Carlene ... I like the one with the rabbit cookie cutter ... it carries out the 'tin' theme. That fluted metal can is so unusual. Love it all.
