Another Rusty Shovel Garden Sign

July 22, 2014
I purchased this $3 rusty shovel at a garage sale this morning.  I'm going to make another rusty shovel garden sign.

Rusty Shovel #1:
I printed out the word "grow" on a sheet of paper in a fun font, traced the back of the word with chalk and then transferred it to the rusty shovel by tracing the front of  "grow" with a pencil.

Next I used my Rust-Oleum American Accents Satin Decorative Paint Pens in White  to retrace my temporary chalk letters.

All done!  I sanded the lettering with very fine sand paper just a little bit.  Then sprayed the lettering with Krylon Matte Finish Spray.

Now to transfer  the word "BLOOM" to another rusty shovel!
I used the Unkempt font on Picmonkey to print out my sign word.  On one word signs, I always use the chalk on the back of the paper and trace the letters in pencil method.  Easy!

Then I used an Rust-Oleum American Accents Satin Decorative Paint Pens in White to trace the chalk letters on the shovel.

I sprayed a matte clear sealer from Krylon on the BLOOM part.

Don't you love rust in the garden?

  3. Could you explain further as to how you actually transferred your pattern GROW to the shovel?

    1. Like I said in the post trace your word on paper. Turn the paper over and trace the word with chalk. Then flip the paper back over on the shovel and retrace the word, the chalk transfers the word onto the shovel for you to write on with a paint pen. carlene
