An "Industrial" Look In the Kitchen With Aluminum and Tin

December 30, 2013
I have a pretty extensive collection of vintage aluminum and tin kitchen items, including funnels, sifters, cookie cutters, biscuit cutters, Jello molds, etc.

I think that aluminum and tin kitchen utensils have an industrial feel, especially with a little aged wood and burlap.

For example, here is a small wood crate with a couple of old sifters and some stacked funnels.

And here, aluminum utensils in a large glass jar with other interestingly shaped aluminum and tinware are placed on a burlap runner.

Are you seeing the "industrial" feel yet?

I continued the aluminum and wood theme on my over the kitchen sink shelf.

All of these aluminum and tin items (with the exception of the funnels) can be found very readily and inexpensively at thrift shops.  Make your own "industrial" kitchen utensil vignettes!

Update:  One of the vignettes did not make it through the entire day without a tweak!

The only change was to add a different crate.  Why?

So I could use the smaller, darker crate for my Bible & Prayer Book collection.

  2. Love all these ideas!
I just bought a huge jar much like yours on Saturday at the the thrift store... it did not have a lid.:/
So... I walked right over to the 'lid department' and found a glass Pyrex lid...older version with ridges on it and it fit perfectly. I was thinking today of maybe painting the knob RED!
After seeing yours with a plain knob and filled with measuring and cooking stuff... I'm going to copy you on this one!
(all in the name of flattery you know?)

I also like your box of collected Bibles and Prayer books. You have such a charming style.
    Happy New Year!
