Outdoor This & That 13: Spring Blossom Macros

June 16, 2013
I will be the first to admit that I am not a great photographer.  I have taken photos of my flowers for 20 years, and I thought the photos were good for an amateur.

I had never even heard of macro photos.  I always thought you had to have a really expensive camera with the really thick lenses to take those cool close ups.  Come to find out you can get decent close-ups of flowers with just a point and shoot camera.

Victorian Ruffled Pansies.

Dwarf White Columbine.

So glad I bought some fuschias this year.  This is the Swingtime in galvanized buckets.

This fuschia is just starting to bloom.  It's in more shade.

This is a "Blackie" Fuschia.  Also just starting to bloom.

These are Ajuga Reptans on the side of my deck with a few creeping phlox still in bloom.

I have these Calibrachoa Cherry Star in a terra cotta pot.  I did not boost these colors.

Fuschias are beautiful, but I think the pansy close-ups are my favorites.

Thanks for reading my blog, Carlene

  1. Good Afternoon Carlene, Your close up photographs are lovely and I really love your wide variety of fuchsias. I am waiting for buds to appear on my plants, so it is lovely to enjoy the closeup of all your beautiful flowers.
I have a Canon IXUS camera which works really well on closeup shots.
I think if I had a camera with lots of lenses I would be flummoxed.
    Have a lovely day,
    Best Wishes

  3. Pansies are my favorite, but all of your flowers are beautiful! I'm always happy when pansies show up from last year's seeds.

  4. Gorgeous! Great shots with your camera!! It would be fun to have big a fancy camera, but you are right, you don't need one! These are great. The fuschias are my favorites! I have always loved those and found them so amazing. I have never grown any though! Putting that on my list!

  10. You are right the pansy close ups are terrific. I loved macro with my point and shoot. I will have to buy an expensive lens to get that for the camera I use now and I cannot do that at present.

  11. I think the fuschias are so cool! I don't think I've ever seen any here! Love that you were able to get such great close ups! Sure makes a dramatic difference to get in there, doesn't it!

  12. LOL - that Macro feature is a lifesaver! It's amazing what you can do with a 79.00 camera these days. Your photos are SO beautiful and I have to agree -- the pansies are my definite favorite too!

  13. Beautiful flowers! I am soooo envious of your photography skills--I have been trying to figure out my canon rebel for over a year and it still looks like I'm taking my pictures through fog. I may take your advice and go back to a point and shoot! I found your blog through Share Your Cup :) --Fran

  14. Carlene, your flowers are fabulous! The closeups turned out very well. I will have to take a closer look at my camera to see which features it has on it. Love your pansies especially. Happy Summer!

    Blessings,

  15. Carlene, great macros! All are gorgeous, but the pansy is my favorite also. I usually always plant a few fuchsia, but didn't this year. In Spain they are bushes. Can you believe that? I will show them in a post soon. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,
    Jann
